The Causeway . . . the "best of" the Message Center

Not really a senior year memory, but when I was a kid I would dream about discovering hoards of buried treasure from the Conquistadors, usually at some secret stash at Porto Bello or the Las Cruces Trail. Seems logical right? Well, while perusing some of the Zone websites I found some history that Perico Island on the Amador Causeway was the major port for Panama City during the 15 and 1600's. The big ships carrying Inca gold would anchor there, and small ships, that could get up the shallow mud flats, would take the cargo in to tranfer to the Atlantic.

Now how many of us whiled the time away watching "sub races" on the causeway or partying at the beach club without realizing the potential for some "spilled" gold right in front of our parked cars? You just know someone went "ooops!" when unloading a heavy chest! I could've been rich! And to think I wasted time drinking beer and trying to get some girls bra off!

Who's with me for a scuba trip!

Ahhhh George, The treasures I found on the causeway were good friends and time spent drinking beer and doing some bud. On the other hand fishing and diving for lobster and scallops there was fun too. I would collect jade, jasper and quarts stones that were dredged up and dumped at the beginning of the causeway. Cut and polish to make jewelry for the tourists. MOVIES: hmmm all the bronson ones and don't forget the bruce lee kung fu ones also. My favorites of course were the beach party bingo ones. I did see with dave jones and others the first most excellent surf movie ever made. ENDLESS SUMMER!!! While my mind wanders- remember making chains out of pull tops and rings out of telephone wire?
